FOCUS Recruitment helps you discern whether God is inviting you to serve as a full-time missionary.
Deciding whether to become a missionary isn't something you're meant to figure out alone.
We’ve walked alongside thousands of young adults asking the same questions you’re asking now. Through prayer, conversation, and practical guidance, we’ll help you discern whether missionary life is where God is leading you.
We understand that you might have questions about fundraising, community life, where you’ll serve, or whether you’re even the right person.
That’s why Recruitment exists.
Our role isn’t to convince you to become a missionary. It’s to help you discern your calling honestly and faithfully.
Missionary life is challenging, joyful, and deeply formative. Over two years, you’ll grow through four pillars of formation:
Spiritual
Human
Intellectual
Apostolic
You’ll be trained and supported in fundraising so you can raise your own salary. Oftentimes this training is used in careers in development or sales.
If you’re not engaged or married, you’ll take a step back to be truly present in the mission field by refraining from romantic relationships for the first year.
You’ll be assigned to a campus based on your strengths, interests, abilities and background. Anything could happen!
FOCUS missionaries receive a full benefits package like any other full-time employee. This includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a retirement plan with an employer match.
Grow in your relationship with our Lord through Daily Prayer and Daily Mass.
Work on a team full team with peers including direct management by a supervisor.
Attend a five-week annual training in human, spiritual, intellectual, and apostolic formation.
Access to academic partnership opportunities, including staff members receiving a graduate certificate of professional campus ministry after two years.
Work side by side with some of the best people you’ll ever meet.
Learn and teach world class bible studies.
Lead discipleship formation and catechesis daily.
Access to international and domestic mission trips.
Make friends and connect people.
Increase your network through fundraising.
Access career specific skills (marketing, finance, development, leadership, etc.)
Learn from and work with well-known lay leaders in the church.
Being a missionary will ask a lot of you. You’ll spend long days meeting students, leading Bible studies, raising support, and investing in friendships that will impact your life and others.
It’s demanding work.
“Mission taught me to hold on to nothing in this world and to rely entirely on Him. That has allowed me to continue building Creedo even in the face of rejection, because rejection does not have to mean failure.”
Caleb Burbach
Missionary life is challenging, joyful, and deeply formative. Over two years, you’ll grow through four pillars of formation:
1
Apply
Complete a short application. Within about two weeks, a recruiter will reach out to hear your story, answer your questions, and help determine whether a Recruitment Weekend is the right next step.
2
Continue discerning
As you move through the process, we encourage you to stay rooted in daily prayer, seek guidance from trusted mentors, and remain open to wherever God leads.
3
Recruitment Weekend
Recruitment Weekend is a three-day discernment experience held throughout the year. You’ll pray, hear from missionaries, meet other candidates asking the same questions you are, and have space to discern whether missionary life is where God is calling you.
4
Receive an invitation
Following Recruitment Weekend, qualified candidates receive an invitation to join FOCUS as missionaries.
5
Begin formation
Before serving on campus, you’ll complete formation and training that prepares you spiritually, professionally, and personally for missionary life.
Whether you’re ready to apply or just curious, we’d love to meet you.
FOCUS Recruitment exists to help young adults discern whether God is calling them to serve as full-time missionaries.
Every year we meet students and young professionals from every background. Some arrive convinced they’re called to mission. Others simply feel that God is asking for something more.
Our recruiters provide honest conversations, practical guidance, and prayer throughout the discernment process. If you’re invited to a Recruitment Weekend, you’ll experience a community of missionaries, dedicated time for prayer, and opportunities to ask difficult questions about what missionary life is like.
Whether you serve with FOCUS or discover God is leading you somewhere else, our hope is that you’ll leave the process with greater clarity and confidence in His call.
